NotePad Deluxe uses different formats to simplify the use of various textstyles.
A format is composed of one or more style-components. The size and colour of the text is two different examples of style-components.
When a format is applied to a textselection (by selecting a format in the hierarchic Format-menu) the text is restyled.
For instance: A text has the style [Normal, 9 pt, black, Chicago]. If a format with the components [Bold, 18pt] is applied, then the text will get the style [Bold, 18pt, black, Chicago]. The colour and the text-font is not affected in this example.
The format-dialog
It's possible to alter or create new formats in the format-dialog. The dialog is opened with the menu-command "Format Settings...".
Text which is written in a specific format will not change it's appearence when the format is altered.
It's possible to activate/deactivate style-components in the dialog by <option>-clicking upon them. Components which is not a part of the format is dimmed.
The button "From selection" sets the style information according to the text-selection in the main window.
The small text-field holds a key-shortcut for the format. It's only possible to enter some keys here because several shortcuts are already used.
Default text-format
It's possible to select a default format for new texts in the preferences dialog. This format will be used for all new pages.
